About the Construction Safety Council:

The CSC has developed a sector wide strategy for health and safety, which focuses on 3 key themes:

  1. Influencing government to provide greater certainty on the collective and individual health and safety responsiblities on the construction site
  2. Creating a unified definition of 'all practicable steps' that has meaning for construction workers
  3. Ensuring the construction industry attains tangible business benefits from better health and safety.

Each of these themes has a series of projects attached to them, several of which have already started. The CSC has obtained funding, engaged a Project Director, and has entered into a partnership agreement with the Department of Labour and the Accident Compensation Corporation to help us work more closely together and share initiatives.

CSC Background:

During late 2009 and mid-early 2010 the Chief Executives and Presidents of Registered Master Builders Federation (RMBF), Certified Builders Association New Zealand (CBANZ), Roading New Zealand (RNZ), New Zealand Specialist Trade Contractors Federation (NZSTCF), New Zealand Contractors' Federation (NZCF) and Site Safe New Zealand (SSNZ), worked together to develop a health & safety strategy for the entire construction sector. This strategy covers civil, residential & commercial construction and specialist trades and includes the establishment of a Construction Safety Council (CSC).

At the high level the CSC represents those responsible for complying with health and safety and acts as an interface with Government on the one hand and providers/trainers on the other. It promotes the development of appropriate health and safety standards and the recognition of health and safety providers/trainers and training programs.
